  1. I really enjoyed the videos, they were very informative and answered many questions that I had prior to finding this website. I never realized how much of a variety there is of freeze dried products. I have never seen any of these products in regular department stores. Maybe I just wasn’t looking in the right place. I will ask the next time I go shopping.

  2. is the water heated? if so how hot?

    __________________________________________

    Vicki,

The food will certainly taste better with warm/hot water, but can be prepared with any temperature of water.

We include an emergency stove w/cooking tin in all of our backpack kits so that you can heat the water.

If you have any additional questions, feel free to email our Support Department at contact@foodinsurance.com, or call us at 1-866-946-8366.

  3. Will it hurt the food if it freezes?

    __________________________________________

    Dennis,

Great question! Since water is removed during the freeze-dry process, freezing will not hurt the food at all.

Excessive heat, on the other hand, will decrease the shelf-life and nutritional value.

If you have any additional questions, feel free to email our Support Department at contact@foodinsurance.com, or call us at 1-866-946-8366.

  4. I am very interested in getting some of your food. I cannot help but notice that you show pancakes, but I do not see that sold anywhere on the site. Can you explain that to me?
I plan to order a sample just to try it out.
As a senior couple on an very limited budget, what would be your recommendation? I am looking at the food essential to start with. Would this be a good start for me.
I do see your ads on GBTV just so you know.

  5. How does one store enough water to reconstitute the food?

I am excited to see that you have fruit. Will you ever have vegetables?

  6. I would guess the food is cold unless using hot water?

    __________________________________________

    Eleanor,

The food will always taste better when prepared with warm or hot water, but can certainly be prepared with cold water if that is all that is available.

We include an emergency stove w/cooking tin in all of our backpack kits so that you can have hot water for food preparation.

    Thanks,

  7. I would like to try your products at this time. You say these food items are freeze dried, my stupid question is if I purchased your food items do I have to keep them in my freezer? In case of a major emergency or what our economy will look like, I want to have food that I can store on a shelf for years if needed.

    ________________________________________

    Richard,

That’s not a stupid question, it is a great question, and something that is commonly misunderstood about freeze-dried food. Through the freeze-dry process the water and oxygen are removed from the food. Because of this, the food can be kept at room temperature (preferably 72 degrees or lower) for 25-years without effecting the taste, texture, or nutritional value.

  9. Do you heat the food or eat it cold? Also, do you offer any gluten free foods or meals?

    ___________________________________

    Joan,

The food will taste better warm, but certainly can be prepared with cold water.

We do have a gluten free meal kit, you can view it here:

    http://www.foodinsurance.com/store/short-term-meal-plans/gluten-free-package

Additionally, our meats, vegetables and fruits are all gluten free.

  10. Does this food contain wheat?

    ______________________________

    Great question Nathan!

It really depends on the individual entrees. We offer a Gluten Free meal plan that is certified to be completely free of wheat. Additionally, our meats, fruits and vegetables are all free of wheat.

If you have any additional questions, please contact us at contact@foodinsurance.com, or 1-866-946-8366.

    Thanks,
    -Food Insurance.

  11. I’m a single guy so I’m wondering what the #10 can shelf life is once it is opened. Would I pretty much have to pick an entree and eat it every day until the can is done then move on to another so it won’t spoil? It seems to me that individual meals in mylar pouches would offer more variety day to day or am I barking up the wrong tree entirely?
    _____________________________________

    Paul,

That is a great question. The shelf-life of our products once opened ranges from 1-6 weeks. This shelf-life is based on the assumption that you are going to leave the can at or above room temperature. If you have the ability to refrigerate the can after opening it, the shelf-life will be extend.

Even with 1 person, you can still eat a variety of entrees without wasting any food. The best way to do this is by planning your entrees for the week out in advance.

For a more detailed explanation you can contact our Support Department at contact@foodinsurance.com, or call us at 1-866-946-8366.
