Gluten Free, Vegetarian, and Low Sodium Meal Options

We have received several questions recently about meal options for individuals with special dietary needs.   The most common questions we receive reference gluten free, vegetarian, and low sodium options. At Food Insurance™, our goal is to provide high quality emergency food to everyone.   Here is a little bit of information regarding these dietary concerns.

Gluten-Free:

Food Insurance™ offers a 620 serving meal plan with includes 7 different entrée options, 2 drink options, and rice.   The Gluten-Free Food Kit has been certified by the Gluten Intolerance Group of North America. To view the Gluten-Free Food Kit, click here.

In addition to the Gluten-Free Food Kit, Food Insurance™ also offers several è la carte items that are gluten free including Fruits, Vegetables, Meats, and Drink Mixes.

Vegetarian:

Food Insurance™ offers a 112 serving vegetarian meal plan that includes 8 different entrée options, and will last one adult for 1-month. Please note that Creamy Chicken Rotini does not contain any chicken. To view the Vegetarian One-Month Food Kit, click here.

In addition to the Vegetarian One-Month Food Kit, Food Insurance also offers several è la carte items that do not contain any animal products like Fruits, Vegetables, Rice and Drink Mixes.

Low Sodium:

All of Food Insurance™’s short-term and long-term meal plan options come in at or below the FDA/USDA recommended sodium intake for an adult. If the recommended sodium intake is higher than your diet allows, the easiest solution is to reduce the entrée serving size, and then replace the reduced calories with Rice, Vegetables, Meats, Drink Mixes and Fruits.

Additionally, most of our breakfast entrées contain low sodium. In time of an emergency, you may want to consider using breakfast entrées for two meals per day instead of one. This will drastically reduce your sodium intake, allowing you to eat a standard serving of one of our lunch/dinner entrées for your third meal.

With a little advanced planning, creating an emergency meal-plan is easy to do for every member of your family, even those with special dietary concerns.

  1. Is your food non-GMO?

    Diana,

Our food producers do not purchase from any known GMO fields. However, since the FDA does not regulate GMO fields, we cannot guarantee that none of the ingredients came from GMO fields.

  2. I’m a vegetarian and I wish I had known about these options when I ordered the emergency backpack. Mine has the meals that contain meat, but I figured I’d rather have the backpack handy and just deal with it because if I needed the backpack, the type of food would be a minor issue in my life!

  3. Our granddaughter has Childhood Absence Epilepsy. The seizures are managed by a low carb high fat diet. She can only have 15 carbs a day. What would you suggest?

  5. My wife is allergic to gluten and egg. This would include noodles which are manufactured with egg. She can almost smell an egg a block away. Although she is a vegetarian, in case of emergency she would eat meat. Bottom line, no egg or item prepared with egg and no gluten.

    Thank You, Donn

    1. James,

We have several vegetarian meal plans that we recently introduced, you can view them here. None of the dehydrated options contain meat. If the sodium content is too high, we would recommend supplementing the meal plan with freeze-dried vegetables, fruits, and rice.
